Iako je Pentagon još prošli tjedan odlučno odbijao zahtjev Njemačke, koja je uvjetovala slanje svojih Leoparda Ukrajini samo ako isto učini i SAD sa tenkovima M1 Abrams, čini se da je u Washingtonu došlo do velikog preokreta.   

Vodeći američki mediji izvještavaju kako administracija Joe Bidena priprema odluku o slanju moćnih Abramsa Ukrajini te da će ju vjerojatno objaviti ovaj tjedan. Glavni borbeni tenk američke vojske mnogi ocjenjuju najboljim tenkom na svijetu koji je na najbolji način ujedinio vatrenu moć, oklopnu zaštitu i pokretljivost. Abrams M1A2 opremljen je topom od 120 mm i ima još tri mitraljeza. Učinkoviti domet topa veći je od četiri kilometra. Može nositi 40 granata od 120 mm i više od 11.000 mitraljeskih metaka. I tenk Leopard 2 koristi isti top njemačkog proizvođača Rheinmetalla od 120 mm i oba mogu koristiti isto streljivo.

CNN izvještava kako nije poznato u kojem bi roku Abramsi mogli biti poslani vojsci Volodimira Zelenskoga, a Wall Street Journal piše kako je odluka o slanju tenkova dio šireg diplomatskog dogovora, pri kojem bi Berlin u srijedu najavio slanje svojih Leoparda Ukrajini te dopustio drugim zapadnim zemljama da i oni učine isto s njemačkim tenkovima. Promjena u američkoj poziciji, navodi Wall Street Journal, uslijedila je nakon telefonskog razgovora predsjednika Bidena i njemačkog kancelara Olafa Scholza. Ocjenjuje se kako Biden na taj način želi premostiti sve veći jaz koji se stvorio između Njemačke i ostalih zemalja oko slanja zapadnih tenkova u Ukrajinu. Poznato je da su Poljaci najavili slanje Leoparda u Kijev, čak i ako to Nijemci ne bi odobrili.

  CNN podsjeća kako Bidenova administracija nikada nije u potpunosti isključila mogućnost isporuke američkih tenkova Ukrajini, no ističu kako su dužnosnici stalno govorili da sada nije pravo vrijeme za to. Odbijanje su opravdavali logističkim poteškoćama, uključujući dugo vrijeme koje je potrebno za obuku ukrajinskih timova za korištenje Abramsa, zatim visoke troškove održavanja ovih skupih i sofisticiranih oklopa i činjenicu da rade na kerozin, za razliku od Leoparda čiji motor koristi dizel. Govorili su i kako Abrams nije najsretnije rješenje za trenutnu prirodu borbi u Ukrajini. Umjesto toga, tenkovi su više puta spominjani kao dugoročna opcija iako su mnogi vojni stručnjaci upozoravali kako je upravo sad pravi trenutak za takvu odluku jer se Ukrajina na vrijeme mora pripremiti za proljetnu rusku ofenzivu.

Umirovljeni general Mark Hertling, koji je bio i zapovjednik američkih kopnenih snaga u Europi ocijenio je kako će biti potrebno dosta vremena ne samo za obuku ukrajinskih posada nego još puno više za stvaranje logističke mreže.

Njemački Spiegel također piše kako je kancelar Olaf Scholz odlučio u Ukrajinu poslati tenkove Leopard 2 te omogućiti isto i drugim zemljama koje ga imaju. Odluka se odnosi na najmanje jednu satniju tenkova Leopard 2  koja će biti isporučena iz zaliha Bundeswehra, objavio je Spiegel. Satnija se u pravilu sastoji od 14 tenkova.

Uz Poljsku tenkove Leopard imaju i Češka, Danska, Finska, Njemačka, Grčka, Mađarska, Norveška, Portugal, Slovačka, Španjolska, Švedska i Turska.

Iako je Pentagon još prošli tjedan odlučno odbijao zahtjev Njemačke, koja je uvjetovala slanje svojih Leoparda Ukrajini samo ako isto učini i SAD sa tenkovima M1 Abrams, čini se da je u Washingtonu došlo do velikog preokreta.   

Vodeći američki mediji izvještavaju kako administracija Joe Bidena priprema odluku o slanju moćnih Abramsa Ukrajini te da će ju vjerojatno objaviti ovaj tjedan. Glavni borbeni tenk američke vojske mnogi ocjenjuju najboljim tenkom na svijetu koji je na najbolji način ujedinio vatrenu moć, oklopnu zaštitu i pokretljivost. Abrams M1A2 opremljen je topom od 120 mm i ima još tri mitraljeza. Učinkoviti domet topa veći je od četiri kilometra. Može nositi 40 granata od 120 mm i više od 11.000 mitraljeskih metaka. I tenk Leopard 2 koristi isti top njemačkog proizvođača Rheinmetalla od 120 mm i oba mogu koristiti isto streljivo.

CNN izvještava kako nije poznato u kojem bi roku Abramsi mogli biti poslani vojsci Volodimira Zelenskoga, a Wall Street Journal piše kako je odluka o slanju tenkova dio šireg diplomatskog dogovora, pri kojem bi Berlin u srijedu najavio slanje svojih Leoparda Ukrajini te dopustio drugim zapadnim zemljama da i oni učine isto s njemačkim tenkovima. Promjena u američkoj poziciji, navodi Wall Street Journal, uslijedila je nakon telefonskog razgovora predsjednika Bidena i njemačkog kancelara Olafa Scholza. Ocjenjuje se kako Biden na taj način želi premostiti sve veći jaz koji se stvorio između Njemačke i ostalih zemalja oko slanja zapadnih tenkova u Ukrajinu. Poznato je da su Poljaci najavili slanje Leoparda u Kijev, čak i ako to Nijemci ne bi odobrili.

  CNN podsjeća kako Bidenova administracija nikada nije u potpunosti isključila mogućnost isporuke američkih tenkova Ukrajini, no ističu kako su dužnosnici stalno govorili da sada nije pravo vrijeme za to. Odbijanje su opravdavali logističkim poteškoćama, uključujući dugo vrijeme koje je potrebno za obuku ukrajinskih timova za korištenje Abramsa, zatim visoke troškove održavanja ovih skupih i sofisticiranih oklopa i činjenicu da rade na kerozin, za razliku od Leoparda čiji motor koristi dizel. Govorili su i kako Abrams nije najsretnije rješenje za trenutnu prirodu borbi u Ukrajini. Umjesto toga, tenkovi su više puta spominjani kao dugoročna opcija iako su mnogi vojni stručnjaci upozoravali kako je upravo sad pravi trenutak za takvu odluku jer se Ukrajina na vrijeme mora pripremiti za proljetnu rusku ofenzivu.

Umirovljeni general Mark Hertling, koji je bio i zapovjednik američkih kopnenih snaga u Europi ocijenio je kako će biti potrebno dosta vremena ne samo za obuku ukrajinskih posada nego još puno više za stvaranje logističke mreže.

„Ovo je dio dugoročnog plana pomoći u transformaciji ukrajinske vojske – ocijenio je Hertling.

Njemački Spiegel također piše kako je kancelar Olaf Scholz odlučio u Ukrajinu poslati tenkove Leopard 2 te omogućiti isto i drugim zemljama koje ga imaju. Odluka se odnosi na najmanje jednu satniju tenkova Leopard 2  koja će biti isporučena iz zaliha Bundeswehra, objavio je Spiegel. Satnija se u pravilu sastoji od 14 tenkova.

Uz Poljsku tenkove Leopard imaju i Češka, Danska, Finska, Njemačka, Grčka, Mađarska, Norveška, Portugal, Slovačka, Španjolska, Švedska i Turska.
