Većina ljudi preboljela je vodene kozice kao dijete, no taj se virus može reaktivirati u odrasloj dobi u obliku herpesa zostera. To je bolest koja ima simptome poput boli, osipa i mjehurića ispunjenih tekućinom na jednoj strani tijela, piše Živim.

Zbog oslabljenog imuniteta često se javlja kod osoba starijih od 65 godina, a rizik se s godinama i povećava. Novo istraživanje je pokazalo da osobe koje su imale herpes zoster također mogu imati povećani rizik od srčanog ili moždanog udara.

Studija, objavljena u studenom u Journal of the American Heart Association, otkrila je da je ta infekcija povezana s gotovo 30 posto većim dugoročnim rizikom od ta dva kardiovaskularna događaja, čak 12 ili više godina nakon bolesti. Isto tako, povećani rizik također može biti veći za one koji su imunokompromitirani.

- Iako su neke prethodne studije pokazale veći kratkoročni rizik od moždanog i srčanog udara u vrijeme infekcije herpes zosterom, nije bilo poznato je li taj veći rizik trajao dugoročno - rekla je glavna autorica studije dr. med. Sharon G. Curhan, liječnica i epidemiologinja u Channing Division of Network Medicine u Brigham and Women‘s Hospital, za Health.

Povećava li upala rizik?

Herpes zoster je viralna infekcija koja uzrokuje izbijanje bolnog osipa na jednom dijelu tijela, recimo na jednoj ruci ili leđima. Ovu bolest uzrokuje varicella zoster virus (VZV), isti virus koji je uzrokuje vodene kozice.

Nakon što osoba oboli od vodenih kozica, varicella zoster virus ostaje u njenom tijelu do kraja života. Godinama, pa čak i desetljećima kasnije, on se može ponovno aktivirati kao herpes zoster.

- Sve je više dokaza koji povezuju virus varicella zoster s vaskularnim bolestima - navela je dr. Curhan, dodajući da je to jedini ljudski virus za koji se zna da se replicira u arterijama i dovodi do vaskulopatije ili problema koji utječu na krvne žile.

Stručnjaci vjeruju da je to oštećenje, često uzrokovano upalom, ono što povećava rizik osobe od moždanog ili srčanog udara nakon herpesa.

Kako bi utvrdili koliko dugo rizik traje, dr. Curhan i njegov tim su koristili podatke iz triju velikih američkih studija, dvije studije o zdravlju medicinskih sestara i jedna studija praćenja zdravstvenih radnika, koje su pratile ljude do 16 godina. Ukupno su uključili više od 200.000 ljudi i isključili sve koji su u povijesti bolesti imali kardiovaskularne bolesti.

Nakon što su isključili i druge čimbenike rizika koji su mogli uzrokovati srčane bolesti, istraživači su utvrdili da je herpes zoster povezan s gotovo 30 posto većim dugoročnim rizikom od moždanog ili srčanog udara koji može trajati do čak 12 godina, a možda i dulje, nakon što je osoba imala infekciju.

S obzirom na to da je riječ o opservacijskoj studiji, ona ne daje potpuni dokaz da je herpes uzrok, rekao je dr. med. Ashok Krishnaswami, kardiolog i član American College of Cardiology’s Geriatric Cardiology Council.

Isto tako, studija naglašava važnost prevencije, posebice zbog dostupnosti sigurnog i učinkovitog cjepiva protiv herpesa.

Cijepljenje protiv herpesa kao zaštita

Većina podataka u studiji prikupljena je prije nego što je cjepivo protiv herpesa postalo dostupno, a dr. Curhan je rekla da čak i kada je cjepivo postalo dostupno, nije se veliki broj ljudi cijepio. No, navela je da rezultati studije ističu herpes zoster kao prijetnju javnom zdravlju i zbog toga je prevencija tog stanja jako važna.

Godine 2017. američki Centar za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti je počeo preporučivati cjepivo s dvije doze kako bi se spriječile komplikacije herpesa kod odraslih starijih od 50 godina. Agencija također preporučuje cjepivo svima starijima od 19 godina koji imaju oslabljen imunološki sustav.

Prema dr. Curhan, kako se povećava primjena novijeg cjepiva protiv herpesa, buduće će studije trebati utvrditi utječe li status cijepljenja na rizik od razvoja kardiovaskularnih bolesti.

Na koje rizike još trebate obratiti pozornost?

Mnoga stanja i ponašanja koja izlažu ljude riziku od bolesti srca:

Visoki krvni tlak - otprilike polovica ljudi s visokim krvnim tlakom nema ga pod kontrolom. Nekontrolirani visoki krvni tlak jedan je od najvećih rizika za srčane bolesti i druga štetna stanja, poput moždanog udara.

Visok kolesterol - dijabetes i/ili pretilost, pušenje, jedenje nezdrave hrane i nedovoljna tjelesna aktivnost mogu pridonijeti nezdravim razinama kolesterola.

Pušenje - oštećuje krvne žile i može uzrokovati bolesti srca.

Ostala stanja i ponašanja koja utječu na rizik od bolesti srca uključuju:

Pretilost - nošenje viška težine opterećuje srce.

Dijabetes - uzrokuje nakupljanje šećera u krvi. To može oštetiti krvne žile i živce koji pomažu u kontroli srčanog mišića.

Tjelesna neaktivnost - održavanje tjelesne aktivnosti pomaže u održavanju zdravlja srca i krvnih žila

Nezdravi obrasci prehrane - zamjena hrane s visokim udjelom natrija svježim voćem i povrćem može pomoći u snižavanju krvnog tlaka. Prehrana bogata transmasnoćama, zasićenim masnoćama i dodanim šećerom povećava faktor rizika za srčane bolesti, objavio je Živim.

Većina ljudi preboljela je vodene kozice kao dijete, no taj se virus može reaktivirati u odrasloj dobi u obliku herpesa zostera. To je bolest koja ima simptome poput boli, osipa i mjehurića ispunjenih tekućinom na jednoj strani tijela, piše Živim.

Zbog oslabljenog imuniteta često se javlja kod osoba starijih od 65 godina, a rizik se s godinama i povećava. Novo istraživanje je pokazalo da osobe koje su imale herpes zoster također mogu imati povećani rizik od srčanog ili moždanog udara.

Studija, objavljena u studenom u Journal of the American Heart Association, otkrila je da je ta infekcija povezana s gotovo 30 posto većim dugoročnim rizikom od ta dva kardiovaskularna događaja, čak 12 ili više godina nakon bolesti. Isto tako, povećani rizik također može biti veći za one koji su imunokompromitirani.

- Iako su neke prethodne studije pokazale veći kratkoročni rizik od moždanog i srčanog udara u vrijeme infekcije herpes zosterom, nije bilo poznato je li taj veći rizik trajao dugoročno - rekla je glavna autorica studije dr. med. Sharon G. Curhan, liječnica i epidemiologinja u Channing Division of Network Medicine u Brigham and Women‘s Hospital, za Health.

Povećava li upala rizik?

Herpes zoster je viralna infekcija koja uzrokuje izbijanje bolnog osipa na jednom dijelu tijela, recimo na jednoj ruci ili leđima. Ovu bolest uzrokuje varicella zoster virus (VZV), isti virus koji je uzrokuje vodene kozice.

Nakon što osoba oboli od vodenih kozica, varicella zoster virus ostaje u njenom tijelu do kraja života. Godinama, pa čak i desetljećima kasnije, on se može ponovno aktivirati kao herpes zoster.

- Sve je više dokaza koji povezuju virus varicella zoster s vaskularnim bolestima - navela je dr. Curhan, dodajući da je to jedini ljudski virus za koji se zna da se replicira u arterijama i dovodi do vaskulopatije ili problema koji utječu na krvne žile.

Stručnjaci vjeruju da je to oštećenje, često uzrokovano upalom, ono što povećava rizik osobe od moždanog ili srčanog udara nakon herpesa.

Kako bi utvrdili koliko dugo rizik traje, dr. Curhan i njegov tim su koristili podatke iz triju velikih američkih studija, dvije studije o zdravlju medicinskih sestara i jedna studija praćenja zdravstvenih radnika, koje su pratile ljude do 16 godina. Ukupno su uključili više od 200.000 ljudi i isključili sve koji su u povijesti bolesti imali kardiovaskularne bolesti.

Nakon što su isključili i druge čimbenike rizika koji su mogli uzrokovati srčane bolesti, istraživači su utvrdili da je herpes zoster povezan s gotovo 30 posto većim dugoročnim rizikom od moždanog ili srčanog udara koji može trajati do čak 12 godina, a možda i dulje, nakon što je osoba imala infekciju.

S obzirom na to da je riječ o opservacijskoj studiji, ona ne daje potpuni dokaz da je herpes uzrok, rekao je dr. med. Ashok Krishnaswami, kardiolog i član American College of Cardiology’s Geriatric Cardiology Council.

Isto tako, studija naglašava važnost prevencije, posebice zbog dostupnosti sigurnog i učinkovitog cjepiva protiv herpesa.

Cijepljenje protiv herpesa kao zaštita

Većina podataka u studiji prikupljena je prije nego što je cjepivo protiv herpesa postalo dostupno, a dr. Curhan je rekla da čak i kada je cjepivo postalo dostupno, nije se veliki broj ljudi cijepio. No, navela je da rezultati studije ističu herpes zoster kao prijetnju javnom zdravlju i zbog toga je prevencija tog stanja jako važna.

Godine 2017. američki Centar za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti je počeo preporučivati cjepivo s dvije doze kako bi se spriječile komplikacije herpesa kod odraslih starijih od 50 godina. Agencija također preporučuje cjepivo svima starijima od 19 godina koji imaju oslabljen imunološki sustav.

Prema dr. Curhan, kako se povećava primjena novijeg cjepiva protiv herpesa, buduće će studije trebati utvrditi utječe li status cijepljenja na rizik od razvoja kardiovaskularnih bolesti.

Na koje rizike još trebate obratiti pozornost?

Mnoga stanja i ponašanja koja izlažu ljude riziku od bolesti srca:

Visoki krvni tlak - otprilike polovica ljudi s visokim krvnim tlakom nema ga pod kontrolom. Nekontrolirani visoki krvni tlak jedan je od najvećih rizika za srčane bolesti i druga štetna stanja, poput moždanog udara.

Visok kolesterol - dijabetes i/ili pretilost, pušenje, jedenje nezdrave hrane i nedovoljna tjelesna aktivnost mogu pridonijeti nezdravim razinama kolesterola.

Pušenje - oštećuje krvne žile i može uzrokovati bolesti srca.

Ostala stanja i ponašanja koja utječu na rizik od bolesti srca uključuju:

Pretilost - nošenje viška težine opterećuje srce.

Dijabetes - uzrokuje nakupljanje šećera u krvi. To može oštetiti krvne žile i živce koji pomažu u kontroli srčanog mišića.

Tjelesna neaktivnost - održavanje tjelesne aktivnosti pomaže u održavanju zdravlja srca i krvnih žila

Nezdravi obrasci prehrane - zamjena hrane s visokim udjelom natrija svježim voćem i povrćem može pomoći u snižavanju krvnog tlaka. Prehrana bogata transmasnoćama, zasićenim masnoćama i dodanim šećerom povećava faktor rizika za srčane bolesti, objavio je Živim.
