Trenutno postoji oko 1500 aktivnih vulkana na Zemlji, koji su imali barem jednu erupciju u posljednjih deset tisuća godina. Što bi se dogodilo da se svi ovi vulkani aktiviraju u isto vrijeme?

Da kojim slučajem eruptiraju u istoga trenutka, ne bi sve erupcije bile iste, piše Radio Sarajevo.

Dr. Matthew Watson, stručnjak za vulkane sa Sveučilišta u Bristolu kaže da se vulkanske erupcije mogu općenito kategorizirati u dvije vrste.

- Prva proizvodi lavu i puno plina, a druga pepeo i plin", objašnjava Watson, i dodaje da je razlika u aktivnosti uglavnom u viskoznosti magme. Što je viskoznost veća, to je plinu teže izaći, pa je vjerojatnije da će eksplodirati. Unatoč ovim razlikama,, kad bi se svi svjetski vulkani aktivirali u isto vrijeme, posljedice bi bile katastrofalne.

Ne bi magma bila jedina stvar koja bi tjerala ljude na bijeg, nego i velika količina pepela.

U blizini vulkana živi veliki broj ljudi. Primjerice, u blizini Vezuva živi oko tri milijuna ljudi, a na otoku Javi na kojem se nalazi 45 aktivnih vulkana oko 130 milijuna ljudi.

Međutim, razorno djelovanje u blizini vulkana bio bi samo početak. Vulkanski pepeo može putovati tisućama milja.

"Pepeo je prilično neugodna stvar. Sastoji se od sitnih fragmenata stakla, kristala i kamenja", kaže dr. Watson.

Podsjetio je na erupciju vulkana Eyjafjalläkidl na Islandu, kada su mnoge svjetske kompanije otkazale letove zbog straha od oštećenja motora zrakoplova.

Osim toga, vulkanski pepeo može oštetiti zgrade i lako prouzročiti urušavanje temelja. Udisanje pepela moglo bi izazvati velike probleme s plućima. Uglavnom, život nakon vulkanske erupcije izgledao bi ovako: ne bi bilo kuća, ali ni vozila s motorima, a nikamo ne bismo mogli ići bez plinskih maski.

To se može povezati s gašenjem komunikacija jer pepeo može poremetiti rad satelitskih antena, ali i blokirati radio valove.

Vulkanske erupcije također mogu izazvati dugoročne klimatske promjene. Iako vulkan obično povezujemo s vrućom lavom, golema količina pepela i plina u atmosferi zapravo bi snizila temperature na globalnoj razini. No, dugoročno gledano, ugljični dioksid koji emitira vulkan doveo bi do zagrijavanja planete.

Ako bi se netko zatekao u blizini vulkana tijekom njegovog buđenja, teško bi preživio. Jedini način je da se što prije ukrcate na kruzer koji ima dovoljno zaliha hrane, vode i medicinskih potrepština.

No, i tada bi postojao problem jer bi nebo bilo mračno i prekriveno pepelom. To znači da bi sunčeva svjetlost teško dopirala do ljudi koji ne bi dobili dovoljno vitamina D koji je ključan za apsorpciju kalcija. Osim toga, nedostatak sunčeve svjetlosti također može utjecati na proizvodnju serotonina, što dovodi do tjeskobe i depresije.

"Hipotetski, kada bi svaki vulkan na zemlji eruptirao u isto vrijeme, na Zemlji ne bi više bilo života. To je scenarij sudnjeg dana, ali kao takav je malo vjerojatan", objasnio je Watson.

Trenutno postoji oko 1500 aktivnih vulkana na Zemlji, koji su imali barem jednu erupciju u posljednjih deset tisuća godina. Što bi se dogodilo da se svi ovi vulkani aktiviraju u isto vrijeme?

Da kojim slučajem eruptiraju u istoga trenutka, ne bi sve erupcije bile iste, piše Radio Sarajevo.

Dr. Matthew Watson, stručnjak za vulkane sa Sveučilišta u Bristolu kaže da se vulkanske erupcije mogu općenito kategorizirati u dvije vrste.

- Prva proizvodi lavu i puno plina, a druga pepeo i plin", objašnjava Watson, i dodaje da je razlika u aktivnosti uglavnom u viskoznosti magme. Što je viskoznost veća, to je plinu teže izaći, pa je vjerojatnije da će eksplodirati. Unatoč ovim razlikama,, kad bi se svi svjetski vulkani aktivirali u isto vrijeme, posljedice bi bile katastrofalne.

Ne bi magma bila jedina stvar koja bi tjerala ljude na bijeg, nego i velika količina pepela.

U blizini vulkana živi veliki broj ljudi. Primjerice, u blizini Vezuva živi oko tri milijuna ljudi, a na otoku Javi na kojem se nalazi 45 aktivnih vulkana oko 130 milijuna ljudi.

Međutim, razorno djelovanje u blizini vulkana bio bi samo početak. Vulkanski pepeo može putovati tisućama milja.

"Pepeo je prilično neugodna stvar. Sastoji se od sitnih fragmenata stakla, kristala i kamenja", kaže dr. Watson.

No, i tada bi postojao problem jer bi nebo bilo mračno i prekriveno pepelom. To znači da bi sunčeva svjetlost teško dopirala do ljudi koji ne bi dobili dovoljno vitamina D koji je ključan za apsorpciju kalcija. Osim toga, nedostatak sunčeve svjetlosti također može utjecati na proizvodnju serotonina, što dovodi do tjeskobe i depresije.

"Hipotetski, kada bi svaki vulkan na zemlji eruptirao u isto vrijeme, na Zemlji ne bi više bilo života. To je scenarij sudnjeg dana, ali kao takav je malo vjerojatan", objasnio je Watson.

Trenutno postoji oko 1500 aktivnih vulkana na Zemlji, koji su imali barem jednu erupciju u posljednjih deset tisuća godina. Što bi se dogodilo da se svi ovi vulkani aktiviraju u isto vrijeme?

Da kojim slučajem eruptiraju u istoga trenutka, ne bi sve erupcije bile iste, piše Radio Sarajevo.

Dr. Matthew Watson, stručnjak za vulkane sa Sveučilišta u Bristolu kaže da se vulkanske erupcije mogu općenito kategorizirati u dvije vrste.

- Prva proizvodi lavu i puno plina, a druga pepeo i plin", objašnjava Watson, i dodaje da je razlika u aktivnosti uglavnom u viskoznosti magme. Što je viskoznost veća, to je plinu teže izaći, pa je vjerojatnije da će eksplodirati. Unatoč ovim razlikama,, kad bi se svi svjetski vulkani aktivirali u isto vrijeme, posljedice bi bile katastrofalne.

Ne bi magma bila jedina stvar koja bi tjerala ljude na bijeg, nego i velika količina pepela.

U blizini vulkana živi veliki broj ljudi. Primjerice, u blizini Vezuva živi oko tri milijuna ljudi, a na otoku Javi na kojem se nalazi 45 aktivnih vulkana oko 130 milijuna ljudi.

Međutim, razorno djelovanje u blizini vulkana bio bi samo početak. Vulkanski pepeo može putovati tisućama milja.

"Pepeo je prilično neugodna stvar. Sastoji se od sitnih fragmenata stakla, kristala i kamenja", kaže dr. Watson.
