Na prepunoj tržnici u predgrađu Hararea, Nyasha Ndou drži masku u džepu, a stotine ljudi, uglavnom bez maske naguravaju se kako bi kupili ili prodali voće i povrće izloženo na drvenim klupama. Slično je u čitavom Zimbabveu gdje je koronavirus otišao u povijest, a vratili su se politički skupovi, koncerti i obiteljska druženja, izvještava  Associated Press.

Prošloga tjedna, Zimbabve je zabilježio samo 33 nova slučaja zaraze koronavirusom te nijednog umrlog, što se poklapa s padom broja novozaraženih na čitavom kontinentu, a prema podacima Svjetske zdravstvene organizacije broj zaraženih konstantno pada od srpnja.

- Covid-19 je gotov, kad ste zadnji put čuli da je netko umro od toga?, kaže na tržnici Ndou.

- Maska je ovdje da bi štitila moj džep, dodaje.

 Policija traži mito pa ću ostati bez novca ako nemam masku, pojašnjava.

Kad se koronavirus prvi put pojavio prošle godine, zdravstveni autoriteti bil isu uvjereni da će pandemija u najgoroj mjeri  poharati Afriku i izazvati smrt milijuna ljudi. Ipak taj se katastrofični scenarij nije nije obistinio. Bar ne zasada.  

Znanstvenici su i dalje oprezni, kažu kako je teško dobiti prave podatke posebno u nekim zemljama s manjkavim nadzorom bolesti te stoga upozoravaju da se ovakav trend može vrlo lako preokrenuti, donosi Slobodna Dalmacija.

No, u Africi se doista događa nešto neobično što zbunjuje znanstvenike, izjavila je Wafaa El-Sadr, šefica Odjela globalnog zdravlja na Sveučilištu Columbia.

- Afrika nema niti cjepiva, niti sredstava za borbu protiv Covida kakva imaju u Europi i SAD-u, no zbog nekog razloga stoje bolje, kazala je.

U Africi je cijepljeno manje od šest posto stanovništva, a već mjesecima Svjetska zdravstvena organizacija u svojim tjednima izvješćima opisuje Afriku kao jednu od 'najmanje pogođenih regija svijeta'. Dio znanstvenika misli da je to zbog pretežno mlade afričke populacije. Prosjek im je 20 godina, u odnosu na 42 u Zapadnoj Europi. Također odgovor se možda krije i u nižoj stopi urbane populacije te činjenici da stanovnici većinu vremena provode na otvorenom.

Nekoliko studija ispituje postoje li i neki drugi razlozi, uključujući genetske razloge ili prošle infekcije.

Istraživači iz Ugande tako su objavili da oboljeli od koronavirusa koji su bili izloženi malariji imaju blaže simptome i manji rizik od smrti od onih koji nisu.

- Mislili smo da ćemo naći višu stopu negativnih ishoda kod onih koji su imali malariju jer je to nešto što smo vidjeli kod zaraženih malarijom i ebolom, kazala je Jane Achan savjetnica u Malaria Consortiumu i suautorica studije za  Associated Press.

Iznenadilo ih je kad su primijetili upravo suprotno - da malarija možda ima zaštitni učinak, piše Slobodna Dalmacija.

Jane Achan je zaključila kako to pokazuje da prijašnja infekcija malarijom možda ublažava reakciju organizma na COVID.

Christian Happi, direktor Afričkog centra za genetiku zaraznih bolesti na Sveučilištu Redeemer u Nigeriji, kaže kako su vlasti uspjele saviti krivulju čak i bez cjepiva i zasluge pripisali širokoj mreži zdravstvenih radnika u zajednici.

- Ne radi se uvijek o količini novca koji imate ili o tome koliko su sofisticirane vaše bolnice, smatra on.

Na prepunoj tržnici u predgrađu Hararea, Nyasha Ndou drži masku u džepu, a stotine ljudi, uglavnom bez maske naguravaju se kako bi kupili ili prodali voće i povrće izloženo na drvenim klupama. Slično je u čitavom Zimbabveu gdje je koronavirus otišao u povijest, a vratili su se politički skupovi, koncerti i obiteljska druženja, izvještava  Associated Press.

Prošloga tjedna, Zimbabve je zabilježio samo 33 nova slučaja zaraze koronavirusom te nijednog umrlog, što se poklapa s padom broja novozaraženih na čitavom kontinentu, a prema podacima Svjetske zdravstvene organizacije broj zaraženih konstantno pada od srpnja.

- Covid-19 je gotov, kad ste zadnji put čuli da je netko umro od toga?, kaže na tržnici Ndou.

- Maska je ovdje da bi štitila moj džep, dodaje.

 Policija traži mito pa ću ostati bez novca ako nemam masku, pojašnjava.

Kad se koronavirus prvi put pojavio prošle godine, zdravstveni autoriteti bil isu uvjereni da će pandemija u najgoroj mjeri  poharati Afriku i izazvati smrt milijuna ljudi. Ipak taj se katastrofični scenarij nije nije obistinio. Bar ne zasada.  

Znanstvenici su i dalje oprezni, kažu kako je teško dobiti prave podatke posebno u nekim zemljama s manjkavim nadzorom bolesti te stoga upozoravaju da se ovakav trend može vrlo lako preokrenuti, donosi Slobodna Dalmacija.

No, u Africi se doista događa nešto neobično što zbunjuje znanstvenike, izjavila je Wafaa El-Sadr, šefica Odjela globalnog zdravlja na Sveučilištu Columbia.

- Afrika nema niti cjepiva, niti sredstava za borbu protiv Covida kakva imaju u Europi i SAD-u, no zbog nekog razloga stoje bolje, kazala je.

U Africi je cijepljeno manje od šest posto stanovništva, a već mjesecima Svjetska zdravstvena organizacija u svojim tjednima izvješćima opisuje Afriku kao jednu od 'najmanje pogođenih regija svijeta'. Dio znanstvenika misli da je to zbog pretežno mlade afričke populacije. Prosjek im je 20 godina, u odnosu na 42 u Zapadnoj Europi. Također odgovor se možda krije i u nižoj stopi urbane populacije te činjenici da stanovnici većinu vremena provode na otvorenom.

Nekoliko studija ispituje postoje li i neki drugi razlozi, uključujući genetske razloge ili prošle infekcije.

Istraživači iz Ugande tako su objavili da oboljeli od koronavirusa koji su bili izloženi malariji imaju blaže simptome i manji rizik od smrti od onih koji nisu.

- Mislili smo da ćemo naći višu stopu negativnih ishoda kod onih koji su imali malariju jer je to nešto što smo vidjeli kod zaraženih malarijom i ebolom, kazala je Jane Achan savjetnica u Malaria Consortiumu i suautorica studije za  Associated Press.

Iznenadilo ih je kad su primijetili upravo suprotno - da malarija možda ima zaštitni učinak, piše Slobodna Dalmacija.

Jane Achan je zaključila kako to pokazuje da prijašnja infekcija malarijom možda ublažava reakciju organizma na COVID.

Christian Happi, direktor Afričkog centra za genetiku zaraznih bolesti na Sveučilištu Redeemer u Nigeriji, kaže kako su vlasti uspjele saviti krivulju čak i bez cjepiva i zasluge pripisali širokoj mreži zdravstvenih radnika u zajednici.
