Populaciji od gotovo dvije milijarde ljudi na svijetu koji se hrane insektima i proizvodima na njihovoj bazi krajem ovog mjeseca pridružit će se i pola milijarde stanovnika Europske Unije.
Europska Komisija napokon je, nakon višegodišnje kampanje i lobiranja nutricionista, "Zelenih", kao i samih proizvođača, dopustila uporabu praha od kućnog zrikavca te crva brašnara za uporabu u proizvodima namijenjenim ljudskoj konzumaciji.
Odobrenje je rezultat zahtjeva kojeg je 2019. podnijela tvrtka Cricket One. Pozitivan odgovor Komisije usvojen je nakon znanstvenog mišljenja Europske agencije za sigurnost hrane (EFSA) koja je potvrdila i odobrila sigurnost proteinskog praha. Novi propisi, uredbom koju je potpisala predsjednica EK Ursula von der Leyen stupaju na snagu krajem mjeseca.
Pivo od cvrčka
Odobrenjem se dopušta proizvođačima hrane u EU da koriste proteinski prah od kućnog cvrčka Acheta Domesticus u proizvodnji nekoliko vrsta hrane - uključujući proizvode na bazi tjestenine, orašaste plodove, sjemenke uljarica, grickalice, umake i mesne pripravke, juhe, kruh, peciva od više žitarica, krekere i grisine, žitne pločice, suhe mješavine za pekarske proizvode, kekse, prerađevine od krumpira, jela na bazi mahunarki i povrća, sirutku u prahu, grickalice na bazi kukuruznog brašna, pića slična pivu i čokoladne slastice.
Proizvodi koji sadrže proteinski prah bit će označeni na odgovarajući način kako bi se potrošače upozorilo na potencijalnu alergijsku reakciju.
Također, 06. siječnja 2023., Europska komisija odobrila je uvođenje smrznutih, osušenih i praškastih oblika ličinki Alphitobius diaperinus, poznatijih kao mali crv brašnar, na tržište EU. EFSA je također utvrdila da su ličinke malog crva brašnara sigurne i, u odobrenim oblicima, sada su dopuštene kao sastojci u nekoliko prehrambenih proizvoda namijenjenih općoj populaciji.
Pripravci od cvrčka Acheta Domesticus i malog crva brašnara Alphitobius diaperinus tako se pridružuju popisu hrane od insekata odobrene od strane EU koji se do sada sastojao od crva brašnara Tenebrio Molitor i skakavca Locusta migratoria.
Među pionirima "insektofagije" u Hrvatskoj svakako je Aleksandar Gavrilović, vlasnik zagrebačke tvrtke Insektarij koji godinama zagovara upravo insekte kao održiv, ekološki prihvatljiv i zdrav način prehrane, no dosad ih je mogao prodavati samo kao hranu za insektivorne životinjske vrste. Naime, kvalitetno uzgojeni cvrčci velik su izvor proteina, a za proizvodnju je potrebno znatno manje utjecati na okoliš nego prilikom proizvodnje, primjerice, mesa kao izvora proteina.

Populaciji od gotovo dvije milijarde ljudi na svijetu koji se hrane insektima i proizvodima na njihovoj bazi krajem ovog mjeseca pridružit će se i pola milijarde stanovnika Europske Unije.
Europska Komisija napokon je, nakon višegodišnje kampanje i lobiranja nutricionista, "Zelenih", kao i samih proizvođača, dopustila uporabu praha od kućnog zrikavca te crva brašnara za uporabu u proizvodima namijenjenim ljudskoj konzumaciji.
Odobrenje je rezultat zahtjeva kojeg je 2019. podnijela tvrtka Cricket One. Pozitivan odgovor Komisije usvojen je nakon znanstvenog mišljenja Europske agencije za sigurnost hrane (EFSA) koja je potvrdila i odobrila sigurnost proteinskog praha. Novi propisi, uredbom koju je potpisala predsjednica EK Ursula von der Leyen stupaju na snagu krajem mjeseca.

Odobrenjem se dopušta proizvođačima hrane u EU da koriste proteinski prah od kućnog cvrčka Acheta Domesticus u proizvodnji nekoliko vrsta hrane - uključujući proizvode na bazi tjestenine, orašaste plodove, sjemenke uljarica, grickalice, umake i mesne pripravke, juhe, kruh, peciva od više žitarica, krekere i grisine, žitne pločice, suhe mješavine za pekarske proizvode, kekse, prerađevine od krumpira, jela na bazi mahunarki i povrća, sirutku u prahu, grickalice na bazi kukuruznog brašna, pića slična pivu i čokoladne slastice.
Proizvodi koji sadrže proteinski prah bit će označeni na odgovarajući način kako bi se potrošače upozorilo na potencijalnu alergijsku reakciju.
Također, 06. siječnja 2023., Europska komisija odobrila je uvođenje smrznutih, osušenih i praškastih oblika ličinki Alphitobius diaperinus, poznatijih kao mali crv brašnar, na tržište EU. EFSA je također utvrdila da su ličinke malog crva brašnara sigurne i, u odobrenim oblicima, sada su dopuštene kao sastojci u nekoliko prehrambenih proizvoda namijenjenih općoj populaciji.
Pripravci od cvrčka Acheta Domesticus i malog crva brašnara Alphitobius diaperinus tako se pridružuju popisu hrane od insekata odobrene od strane EU koji se do sada sastojao od crva brašnara Tenebrio Molitor i skakavca Locusta migratoria.
Među pionirima "insektofagije" u Hrvatskoj svakako je Aleksandar Gavrilović, vlasnik zagrebačke tvrtke Insektarij koji godinama zagovara upravo insekte kao održiv, ekološki prihvatljiv i zdrav način prehrane, no dosad ih je mogao prodavati samo kao hranu za insektivorne životinjske vrste. Naime, kvalitetno uzgojeni cvrčci velik su izvor proteina, a za proizvodnju je potrebno znatno manje utjecati na okoliš nego prilikom proizvodnje, primjerice, mesa kao izvora proteina.
