Stoljeće i pol prije planetarnog trijumfa Muhammada Alija i nekih 170 godina prije negoli će Stalloneov Rocky nokautirati filmske blagajne, boks se još smatrao prljavom zabavom u kojoj su siromašni krvarili, a beskrupulozni se kladioničari na njima bogatili. U vrijeme Napolenskih ratova odvodi nas i britanska biografska drama 'Prizefighter' (Boksač: Život Jema Belchera), no za razliku od romantičnih junaka Jane Austen, ovdje vidimo život u nimalo glamuroznom izdanju, pun niskih udaraca, u ringu i izvan njega.

U 'Boksaču' gostuje i kompulentni Russell Crowe, u epizodi koja čini razliku

Naslovni junak je Jem Belcher, mladić koji je bio sveengleski boksački prvak od 1800-1805., najmlađi u povijesti Kraljevstva. Jemove kožnate rukavice fino su srasle s tumačem naslovne uloge, 33-godišnjim Mattom Hookingsom, glumcem, producentom i scenaristom kojemu predviđaju sjajnu budućnost. Za ostale preokupacije ne znamo, ali što se glume tiče, naočiti Hookings čija producentska kuća Camelot stoji iza ovog projekta, ne treba brinuti.

Svoj lik mladca koji dobrim boksom preskače društvene ograde, ali ostaje ukorijenjen u zajednici iz koje potječe, izgradio je suptilno i s osjećajem za gradaciju, od ranjivosti do agresije. U 'Boksaču' gostuje i kompulentni Russell Crowe, bivši Scottov gladijator u posljednje vrijeme se izgleda specijalizirao za epizodne uloge koje čine razliku, pa tako i ovdje ostaje upamćen kao stari šakač Jack Slack, propalica i Belcherov djed po materi koju s upečatljivom dozom beznadne zlokobnosti igra Jodhi Tania May. Malu bravuru priredio nam je Ray Andrew Winstone. Ovom je TV i filmskom veteranu dopala tipizirana uloga boksačeva trenera, odgojitelja i oslonca, no Winstone joj je uspio udahnuti osobnost koja daje dodatnu dimenziju.

Zamijećen je i Novozelanđanin Marton Paul Csokas u epizodi dijaboličnog hazardera, lorda Rushwortha. I dok se glumačkim izvedbama u većini mogu pripisati pohvale, 'Prizefighter' slabije stoji kad je riječ o prijenosu glavne poruke o boksu kao plemenitoj vještini koja je priznanje statusa čekala još od antike.

Na tom je polju trebalo pokazati više od nekoliko mečeva s neugodnim udarcima koji bi danas značili trajnu diskvalifikaciju boraca. Sama završnica u znaku fairplaya s prigodnom besjedom nije dovoljna kako bi nam približila značenje pojma pugilizam koji se u par navrata provlači kroz radnju, ali nikad ne dobiva odgovarajuću 'odgonetku'.

Boksački prvijenac inače etabliranog australskog redatelja Daniela Grahama u nekim sekvencama više je nalik televizijskoj seriji negoli filmu, a razloge dijelom treba tražiti i u financijskim peripetijama koje su pratile 'pandemijski' projekt sastavljen 2021. na koji se upisao streaming servis Amazon Prime. S budžetom od petnaestak i više milijuna dolara 'Boksač' teško može konkurirati za jeftini nezavisni film, a zbog teme će privući tek ograničeni dio auditorija, no jedno je sigurno. Jaka glumačka postava jamstvo je da ova drama unatoč nesavršenostima neće pasti odmah u prvoj rundi.

Stoljeće i pol prije planetarnog trijumfa Muhammada Alija i nekih 170 godina prije negoli će Stalloneov Rocky nokautirati filmske blagajne, boks se još smatrao prljavom zabavom u kojoj su siromašni krvarili, a beskrupulozni se kladioničari na njima bogatili. U vrijeme Napolenskih ratova odvodi nas i britanska biografska drama 'Prizefighter' (Boksač: Život Jema Belchera), no za razliku od romantičnih junaka Jane Austen, ovdje vidimo život u nimalo glamuroznom izdanju, pun niskih udaraca, u ringu i izvan njega.

Naslovni junak je Jem Belcher, mladić koji je bio sveengleski boksački prvak od 1800-1805., najmlađi u povijesti Kraljevstva. Jemove kožnate rukavice fino su srasle s tumačem naslovne uloge, 33-godišnjim Mattom Hookingsom, glumcem, producentom i scenaristom kojemu predviđaju sjajnu budućnost. Za ostale preokupacije ne znamo, ali što se glume tiče, naočiti Hookings čija producentska kuća Camelot stoji iza ovog projekta, ne treba brinuti.

Svoj lik mladca koji dobrim boksom preskače društvene ograde, ali ostaje ukorijenjen u zajednici iz koje potječe, izgradio je suptilno i s osjećajem za gradaciju, od ranjivosti do agresije. U 'Boksaču' gostuje i kompulentni Russell Crowe, bivši Scottov gladijator u posljednje vrijeme se izgleda specijalizirao za epizodne uloge koje čine razliku, pa tako i ovdje ostaje upamćen kao stari šakač Jack Slack, propalica i Belcherov djed po materi koju s upečatljivom dozom beznadne zlokobnosti igra Jodhi Tania May. Malu bravuru priredio nam je Ray Andrew Winstone. Ovom je TV i filmskom veteranu dopala tipizirana uloga boksačeva trenera, odgojitelja i oslonca, no Winstone joj je uspio udahnuti osobnost koja daje dodatnu dimenziju.

Zamijećen je i Novozelanđanin Marton Paul Csokas u epizodi dijaboličnog hazardera, lorda Rushwortha. I dok se glumačkim izvedbama u većini mogu pripisati pohvale, 'Prizefighter' slabije stoji kad je riječ o prijenosu glavne poruke o boksu kao plemenitoj vještini koja je priznanje statusa čekala još od antike.

Na tom je polju trebalo pokazati više od nekoliko mečeva s neugodnim udarcima koji bi danas značili trajnu diskvalifikaciju boraca. Sama završnica u znaku fairplaya s prigodnom besjedom nije dovoljna kako bi nam približila značenje pojma pugilizam koji se u par navrata provlači kroz radnju, ali nikad ne dobiva odgovarajuću 'odgonetku'.

Boksački prvijenac inače etabliranog australskog redatelja Daniela Grahama u nekim sekvencama više je nalik televizijskoj seriji negoli filmu, a razloge dijelom treba tražiti i u financijskim peripetijama koje su pratile 'pandemijski' projekt sastavljen 2021. na koji se upisao streaming servis Amazon Prime. S budžetom od petnaestak i više milijuna dolara 'Boksač' teško može konkurirati za jeftini nezavisni film, a zbog teme će privući tek ograničeni dio auditorija, no jedno je sigurno. Jaka glumačka postava jamstvo je da ova drama unatoč nesavršenostima neće pasti odmah u prvoj rundi.
