Na današnji dan 7. ožujka 1970. oko 9 sati ujutro dgodila se strašna nesreća koja je presudila dubrovačkom tramvaju. ‘Petica‘ iz lapada krenula je prema Gradu i zadnjoj stanici-okretištu Pile. No taman prije nego će se krenuti spuštati prema Pilama, kočnice su počele popuštati na nizbrdici, postigao je ogromnu brzinu, a ljudi su, prema pričama starijih, putem iskakali kako je tko mogao. Tramvaj se velikom brzinom sjurio na Pile, projurio na drugu stranu ceste i ne mogavši se zaustaviti, survao se u park u Pilama s četiri metra visine, odnoseći sa sobom i jedan život.

U ovoj nesreći život je izgubio 56-godišnji radnik poduzeća “Auto-Dubrovnik” Hamdija Ovčina, dok je 14 osoba ozlijeđeno, od kojih teže 12-godišnja Snježana Zovko iz Dubrovnika, 51-godišnja Kate Musladin iz Gromače, 52-godišnja Ana Bogdan iz Dubrovnika i 20-godišnja Marija Mihaljević, a lakše Zlatko Račić, Obren Milat, Čedo Mičeta (vozač tramvaja), Martin Prkačin, Anka Knežević i Stevo Korda. Lakše su i teže ozlijeđeni i putnici koji su na brzinu shvatili da se tramvaj neće zaustaviti pa iskočili na današnjem skretanju za Gradac, na zavoju kod zgrade starog rodilišta, prošli su s nekoliko slomljenih ruku i rebara.

Vrlo skoro donesena je odluka u Savjetu za narodnu obranu i savjetu za urbanizam i komunalne poslove Skupštine općine Dubrovnik- tramvaj uveden 1910. se ukida. Tramvajski je promet potpuno zaustavljen 20. travnja 1970. godine točno u podne.

No to mu nije bila jedina nesreća, ali sve te do 1970. prolazile su relativno ‘lišo. Već drugog dana prometovanja po tračnicama koje su, usput budi rečeno, po cijelom gradu postavljene u samo 48 radnih dana, nedaleko remize kod današnjeg bazena tramvaj je iskočio iz tračnica, a istragom je utvrđeno da su šine bile zatrpane sovrnjom. Četiri dana kasnije na tračnice je postavljena drvena greda, a međusobno se optuživalo sve i svakoga, osobito vklasnike i vozače kočija i omnibusa, da se protive uvođenju tramvaja jer će ostati bez posla, ili pak djecu i njihove spačke. još jedna nesreća dogodila se u lipnju 1911. kad je prignječen kondukter koji je spajao kola. Do 1970. većih nesreća s tramvajem više nije bilo, a ta mu je presudila.

Na današnji dan 7. ožujka 1970. oko 9 sati ujutro dgodila se strašna nesreća koja je presudila dubrovačkom tramvaju. ‘Petica‘ iz lapada krenula je prema Gradu i zadnjoj stanici-okretištu Pile. No taman prije nego će se krenuti spuštati prema Pilama, kočnice su počele popuštati na nizbrdici, postigao je ogromnu brzinu, a ljudi su, prema pričama starijih, putem iskakali kako je tko mogao. Tramvaj se velikom brzinom sjurio na Pile, projurio na drugu stranu ceste i ne mogavši se zaustaviti, survao se u park u Pilama s četiri metra visine, odnoseći sa sobom i jedan život.

U ovoj nesreći život je izgubio 56-godišnji radnik poduzeća “Auto-Dubrovnik” Hamdija Ovčina, dok je 14 osoba ozlijeđeno, od kojih teže 12-godišnja Snježana Zovko iz Dubrovnika, 51-godišnja Kate Musladin iz Gromače, 52-godišnja Ana Bogdan iz Dubrovnika i 20-godišnja Marija Mihaljević, a lakše Zlatko Račić, Obren Milat, Čedo Mičeta (vozač tramvaja), Martin Prkačin, Anka Knežević i Stevo Korda. Lakše su i teže ozlijeđeni i putnici koji su na brzinu shvatili da se tramvaj neće zaustaviti pa iskočili na današnjem skretanju za Gradac, na zavoju kod zgrade starog rodilišta, prošli su s nekoliko slomljenih ruku i rebara.

Vrlo skoro donesena je odluka u Savjetu za narodnu obranu i savjetu za urbanizam i komunalne poslove Skupštine općine Dubrovnik- tramvaj uveden 1910. se ukida. Tramvajski je promet potpuno zaustavljen 20. travnja 1970. godine točno u podne.

No to mu nije bila jedina nesreća, ali sve te do 1970. prolazile su relativno ‘lišo. Već drugog dana prometovanja po tračnicama koje su, usput budi rečeno, po cijelom gradu postavljene u samo 48 radnih dana, nedaleko remize kod današnjeg bazena tramvaj je iskočio iz tračnica, a istragom je utvrđeno da su šine bile zatrpane sovrnjom. Četiri dana kasnije na tračnice je postavljena drvena greda, a međusobno se optuživalo sve i svakoga, osobito vklasnike i vozače kočija i omnibusa, da se protive uvođenju tramvaja jer će ostati bez posla, ili pak djecu i njihove spačke. još jedna nesreća dogodila se u lipnju 1911. kad je prignječen kondukter koji je spajao kola. Do 1970. većih nesreća s tramvajem više nije bilo, a ta mu je presudila.
