Očekuje se da će Indija do sredine 2023. prestići Kinu kao najmnogoljudnija zemlja svijeta, pokazuju procjene Ujedinjenih naroda objavljene u srijedu.
Stanovništvo Indije iznosit će 1,4286 milijardi u usporedbi s 1,4257 milijardi u Kini, navodi se u izvješću Populacijskog fonda Ujedinjenih naroda (UNFPA) o stanju svjetske populacije.

Očekuje se da će Indija do sredine 2023. prestići Kinu kao najmnogoljudnija zemlja svijeta, pokazuju procjene Ujedinjenih naroda objavljene u srijedu.
Stanovništvo Indije iznosit će 1,4286 milijardi u usporedbi s 1,4257 milijardi u Kini, navodi se u izvješću Populacijskog fonda Ujedinjenih naroda (UNFPA) o stanju svjetske populacije.
Broj stanovnika u Kini smanjio se prošle godine prvi put u više od šest desetljeća, pokazali su službeni podaci ranije ove godine.
Izvješće UNFPA također procjenjuje da će svjetska populacija do sredine 2023. dosegnuti 8,045 milijarda ljudi.
Indija nema službene podatke o broju svojih stanovnika jer nije provela popis od 2011. godine.
Popis stanovništva u Indiji, koji se održava samo jednom u desetljeću, trebao se održati 2021., ali je morao biti odgođen zbog pandemije koronavirusa.

Hinduističku nacionalističku vladu premijera Narendre Modija kritičari su optužili da je namjerno odgodila popis stanovništva kako ne bi objavila podatke o osjetljivim pitanjima poput nezaposlenosti prije nacionalnih izbora sljedeće godine.
Prema Pew Research Centeru, američkom think tanku, indijsko se stanovništvo povećalo za više od milijardu ljudi od 1950. godine od koje su Ujedinjeni narodi počeli utvrđivati ​​demografske podatke.
